Raja Explorer
The Raja Explorer has now been operating since mid 2007 in the Raja Ampat. The Raja Explorer has a spacious rear diving deck with plenty of space for camera’s and all your dive equipment. Getting on and off the Raja Explorer is easier than most traditional style phinisi vessels as the rear end doesn’t rock around as much as the side mounted ladders on other phinisi styled vessels.
Cabins
Raja Explorer can comfortably accommodate a maximum of 14 divers in 7 full en-suite and air conditioned cabins. There is a double upper deck cabin and upper twin cabin.Lounging Areas
Raja Explorer has a large upper deck sun lounging area with cover for shade, which can be easily removed for those who prefer to bathe in the sun.Being the only traditional styled vessel operating with a rear dive deck that makes diving very easy and efficient as the captain moves this vessel around with ease, always there to pick you up from each dive. Also with the use of a fibreglass tender it is also possible to use this for the dive sites where the boat rests at anchor. All wooden interiors have been designed for practicality and comfort. Charging stations are easily at hand and all rooms have 220V electricity for extra charging space.
When full with 14 guests and 10 crew the boat could be a little crowded in the salon and dive deck area though enough room to spread out with different decks and plenty of staff on hand to make sure you receive an excellent service. All Raja Explorer's rooms are air-conditioned and have very large en-suite bathrooms.Salon
The main deck salon has plenty of relaxing and working space, with a mini bar for free water, tea, coffee and light snacks. The lower deck staterooms are all accessed from the main salon area.Dive Systems
Having a rear dive deck and rear deck entry system it is possible to make many dives from the main vessel, for safety a tender boat is always in the water for pick-ups. If full it would best with 2 tenders though only one is available. It is possible to make dives from the tender boat on occasions, there is side ladder for this purpose. It is usually possible to make 4 dive per day including a night dive, depending on the logistics of the itinerary.
Raja Explorer conclusion
If you after a traditional style, unpretentious vessel with plenty of charm while not going too heavy on the wallet, Raja Explorer may be the best option for you. What also makes this vessel specially stand out is the crew. Here we have a crew that I find are the proudest, most self motivated crew I have had the pleasure of working with. The crew certainly make up for the lack of luxuries that other live aboard boats offer. If you are really keen on great food, this may not best boat for you!
