Dining out in Bali
Apart from some of the worlds best diving, Bali is also renowned for it's fine dining and excellent mix of foods. There is a whole range of world class restaurants here with many outstanding chefs creating fantastic mixed fusion cuisine. In Bali fine dining can be had by everyone as here the prices are probably less than your average steak house at home.
Wines in Bali - often wine bills in Bali can be much more than your meal and choices are not anywhere near as good as you can get in the western world.
High end restaurants
At many of the best restaurants in Bali I would always recommend an advance booking to ensure you get a table without any waiting around.
Mozaic
Jalan Raya Sanggingan, Ubud.

Probably one of, if not The best food, service and ambience in Bali. Great
drinks and cocktails though they often take a while to arrive, if you plan to
really drink a few, order earlier than normal. This is my personal favourite and
also comes highly recommended by just everyone that goes here. A must for the
real food lovers!
Price: High though worth it, it's not a meal but a whole experience!
Ku De Ta
Jalan Oberoi, Seminyak
Tel:
Bali's hippest fine dining experience with live DJ's playing the latest
chillout tracks, additional Cigar Bar. Plenty of space between all tables, outstanding customer service.
This is a much better place for afternoon sunset drinks and snacks. During our
last few times here we thought the food quality was not so good, especially
considering the price!
A great place to go to watch the sunset, excellent atmosphere and usually very
busy from 5.30 till 7.30, watch out for the sundown cocktails, they're very
addictive and you will only
want more....
Price: Very high!
LaLucciola
Jalan Oberoi, Kayu Aya Beach.

Excellent beach front dining, great service and with a new bar there is a great
place to hang out while waiting for a table. One of the best places to go for
brunch.
This is one of our favourite places to eat in Bali!
Price: Won't break the bank!

Located in the most amazing residence in Bali and in fact one of the worlds
best! A great ambience and outstanding service though the food can often be a
little lacking in taste. For the most amazing residence in Bali the food should
really be better than this...

Mid range dining in Bali
Trattoria
Jalan Lesmana, Seminyak.
Tel:
One of Bali's busiest restaurants with excellent value for money Italian foods,
Very cramped and noisy, located next to the roadside. During our last few times
here, we thoguht the food was not as good as it used to be, maybe the expansion
has meant lower quality food?
Price: Low - mid, excellent value for your wallet!
Taste
Jalan Lesmana

Food here is certainly some of the best value for
money in Bali. A very pleasant atmosphere in the evenings! During the day it
doesn't seem to be as efficient as the evenings. Food is not always 100%, best
meals are the Tuna Mela Mele, they do great salads, and a gorgeous sea bass.
Serves a mix of French, Mediterranean and Indonesian cuisine.
Beware! Only Bintang beer and average wines available, you may want to
take along your own tipple if you fancy a decent drink!
Price: Very cheap for what you get!
Mykonos
Jalan Lesmana, Seminyak and Jalan Danau Tamblingan, Sanur.
Greek food always busy, it can be an idea to book in advance for the Seminyak
restaurant which is actually much better.
Price: Good value for money though portions starting to shrink!
Mades Warung
Kuta - Seminyak
Good Indonesian and western favourites with a great atmosphere and good service.
Price: Low to mid!
Ryoshi
Sanur, Seminyak, Ubud, Tirtagangga
Great Japanese food though I have been told the Japanese expat's don't it too
much.
Price: Excellent value for money sushi and sashimi!
Rumours
Jalan Lesmana, Seminyak.
Very new and already very busy, it must be the price of their meals, steaks and
meat dishes are very reasonable indeed. The progressive music
makes this place more geared for a younger crowd.
Price: Cheap and cheerful!
Mings
Jalan Danau Tamblingan, Sanur
The name throws most people into thinking this is chinese, not so. This is
probably one of Sanur's best restaurants, we only came across this recently though it has
been around for a long time. The best service I have had, maybe a
little over the top at times, with all the staff welcoming you, saying hellos
and goodbye's and asking if everything is OK!
A mix of French, western and Indonesian dishes, lots of steak on the menu.
Sadly a few recent reports from here have been not so good!
Price: Very cheap for what you get, that explains why it is always so busy! May
be an idea to book in advance if you want to go later in the evenings.
The Village
Jalan Danau Tamblingan, Sanur.
Tel:
Great Italian foods with fantastic deserts, food is always very good and the
ambience excellent. Air conditioned interior and outside dining possible.

Excellent Indonesian foods, breads and cakes.
Price: Low to mid!
Jimbaran Sea Food
Jimbaran Bay
A whole choice of places to choose from here all serving locally caught fish,
lobster, shrimps, squid, clams, all meals come with potatoes, rice, a local
vegetable like water spinach and a range of sauces and different chilli sambals
usually very mild for the western palette. We usually eat at the same place
called Roma, the
choice is too much to think about going to check them all out.
Price: Cheap and cheerful fresh seafood with a great atmosphere!
Cheap foods in Bali
Now this is the real Indonesian dining experience!
If you are adventurous with your dining and
want to try the real local cuisine it is much better to go with a westerner
living here or a
local guide. I love some of the local warungs with a plate full of food and a drink for less than
a dollar.
Balinese dishes like babi guling (spit roast pig), Bebek Betutu (slow cooked
spicy duck) and the pepes ikan/ayan (mild spicy fish/chicken cooked in banana
leaf) are all best experienced in real local warungs, all these local dishes need to be ordered a day in
advance from hotels. I have yet to have a really
good Balinese dish anywhere other local food stalls or homes Balinese friends.
Selamat Makan!
